OK. There’s a few facts that the world needs to know about these girls and their families that might just shock you. 1. Their father’s were wholly responsible for the development of the early Beatles. Lennon, McCartney and Harrison. 2. These four black girls called Distinction from Liverpool UK, sisters: Barbara and Susan, best friends Donna and Mandy were the first UK black R&B Soul group to have a major label recording deal. Way before it was trendy. 3. Barbara and Susan’s dad was the renowned calypsonian ‘Lord Woodbine’ who took the Beatles to Hamburg Germany in the very early 1960s. Mandy’s dad was also a musician in the ‘Royal Caribbean Steel Band’. A calypso band full of Empire Windrush generation musicians from the Caribbean, that the teenage Beatles hung out with, played with and were mentored by. In fact the three teenagers were in those days always referred to by Liverpool locals as ‘Woodbine’s lads’. This due to him finding them local gigs and him being involved in their early musical development. Paul McCartney constantly refers to ‘The Woodbine Days’ as a pivotal period in the history of The Beatles.
